In 1905, the “Sup’t of the Children’s Department” of the Brooklyn Public Library ordered Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer to be removed from the collection due to the negative characteristics displayed by the characters. Twain’s reply was a sarcastic one; “The mind that becomes soiled in youth can never again be washed clean; I know this by my own experience…”.
